& playlists across a LAN.
Duplicate Winamp Media Library ratings & playlists across a LAN
or after changing .
This is an advance topic. I am not going
to have pics. This is mostly for people who share music over a LAN
with other computers. In my situation I started using Vista &
still need XP to do most things. My Media Library ratings &
music drive are located on the XP computer. Moving the ratings isn't
as easy as backing up the settings & copying them to the new computer.
The network location is different than the local path to the music files.
This will also work if you
changed the drive letter that your music is located on for a stand-alone
computer.
- You must go on the computer with the ratings & playlists you wish
to duplicate.
- Open Winamp and load the Media Library.
- Sort the Top Rated by Rating.
- Once sorted I started my single left-clicking on the top rated song
& held the Shift key while I used the arrow keys to select only
the 5's first.
- I then sent the highlighted list from Media Library
to the active playlist.
- Single right-click on the highlighted files to select Play
in the context menu that pops-up.
- From the playlist window you must save the playlist of all the songs
rated 5's as an .M3U file.
- Under Manage Playlist in the bottom right corner
you should single left-click on Save playlist.
- Now open the .M3U file in Notepad.
- Under the Edit menu click on Replace.
- Replace C:\MP3\music.mp3 with \\server\share\music.mp3.
- I don't know what the locations are on your computers but it must
be valid from the remote computer.
- Save this modified .M3U file to a shared location
on the network.
- Import the modified .M3U file on the networked computer
& you should be able to select all the file in the playlist and
rate them all at once to whatever rating they had on the old computer.
- Repeat this for songs rated 4, 3, 2, 1 or until you are happy.
- Replacing the location will work for playlists you might want to share
as well.
